That one AU where Bolin and Korra have time to learn their new bending skills.

[and end up getting shipped because their significant others aren't there? It's an AU, idk. It's 4am. You're always free to say no.]

[With the other half of Team Avatar heading back to Republic City, Mako called in by Lin and Asami having to see to Future Industries, Korra opted to stay behind in Zaofu along with Bolin. The metal city was ideal for her to pick up her metalbending again, that and Bolin had plenty of earth to practice his lavabending in and out of the city. That and Korra was kicked out of Republic City by President Raiko.

The awkward vibe she was getting from Mako had been weighing down on her while he was there. Without Asami to talk to about it, she found Bolin before Suyin would send a guard to notify them when dinner would be ready.]

Hey, how's your first half day with it just being us in this place? [She put her hands on the belt around her waist that housed her metal cables.] Less pressure?

[Both from Mako pushing a little too hard for his brother to improve his skill and from possibly messing up from noticing Opal was watching him.]

You know, I think so! I haven't wrecked any buildings or melted anybody... it's nice! [ Especially on the Mako front. Not that he can't understand why it's really important to learn to control... deadly face-melting molten earth. Or anything. Like, it's kind of an important thing to learn. He gets it.

But Mako's always been a little heavy-handed when it comes to life-threatening worries. It's hard to push your limits when he's pretty sure the limit will burn your arm off or something. Annnd when you don't want to burn your arm off or something in front of a really great girl who hasn't seen you completely mess something up yet. It's a hard-knock life. ]

How about you? I mean, I know you're kind of a natural at metalbending and you've been practicing, annnd we're. You know, right here in the middle of the metalbending capital of the world and stuff, but. Yeah. How's it going?

Kind of nice actually! Not having anything melt down has been a big help. [She grins and pats the circular canisters of metal cables on her hips.] I can’t wait to be able to use these things everywhere instead of only in the practice area. Pretty sure Wing is too, and not just to have someone else to play power disc with.

[Poor guy’s probably not used to having a novice metalbender wipe the floor with him.]

Hey. If you really want to cut loose, maybe Suyin will let us take Naga out to the mountains. [She gives Bolin a quirky half smile.] As long as you don’t turn it into a volcano or anything.

Oooh, that could be fun! [ Oh, wait. ] Not the. Not the volcano, just for the record. I think I wanna keep my mountain-destroying record at a firm zero. I bet it'd be nice to have some space to practice without worrying about accidentally wrecking part of a city or whipping someone with a cable, though! If you really think we can get Suyin on board, you've got yourself a date.

[ SEE, THE THUMBS UP MEANS IT'S SUPER LEGIT. ]

A bending date. I think I can work with that. [Double fist bump, thumbs up included. She smirked when a guard approached them that dinner is going to be whenever they want since the Beifong’s schedule has been jostled from Opal’s departure.]

Guess the chef’s running the kitchen all night. [Once the guard’s gone, she looks back to Bolin.] You going to be okay here? I know you and Opal were hitting it off pretty well.

[Something she had a hand in, but Korra really liked seeing Bolin genuinely happy.]

[ They need more fistbumps in their lives. ]

That guy's great, he'll manage. [ Always have faith in the chef. Well. Have faith in food. Bolin shrugs. ] And obviously I'm great, so I'll manage. I mean, it's not like I was gonna say "hey Opal, I know I told you going to the air temple was a great idea but you should also change your mind because I'll miss you. Forget that great life opportunity, please." It's kind of. You know, it's not the most polite way to do things.

[ Not that he didn't think about it. ]

But what about you? You're kind of hanging out in the isolation zone too, huh?

[She chuckles and starts heading back to Suyin’s, beckoning Bolin to follow.]

Probably not the most polite, even if it is honest.

[Her fingers tap the cable discs on hips.]

It’s been, I don’t know. Rough I guess. But I’m fine. It’s not like I’ve been thinking about it. A lot. Or anything.

[Her shoulders slump, that sounded terrible..]

That obvious, huh?

[ The empathy smile is strong with this one, Korra. He gives her a couple of firm pats on the shoulder. ]

Yeah, maybe a little. But it's like a dignified obvious. Super respectable! Half of anyone around here seems a little mopey, if you ask me. I mean, Huan? [ Full gossip. It's happening. ] Phew. I don't even know what's going on with that guy.

[That does put a smile on her face.]

Me either, because that was definitely a banana. [Gossip’s totally okay. She’s not an art aficionado either.

And it helps transition her into not having to think about her ex’s awkwardness around her.]

Such a banana! I tried telling him he should think about putting it near the kitchen, but he just told me I have no artistic vision. [ He shrugs. ]

I bet they've got edible bananas around here somewhere, though. High-class city like this and all.

Let’s raid the kitchen, I don’t think Su would mind. [She starts taking off the belt holding the metal cables.]

Besides, I think we worked up a pretty good appetite. [And her stomach growls as if in response to her statement.

Come on, I’m sure they’ve got something we can both eat.

I never say no to food! [ Literally never. Like, what a waste of potential. He stretches his arms over his head and establishes a beeline for the nearest supercool kitchen. ]

Talk about a great city, huh? There's so much people can do around here!

You’re telling me. Professional dancing’s not really my thing, but it was cool to watch.

Maybe you should try it out. [Is she joking? Oh yes. She opens both doors to the kitchen and begins to scour the cupboards for grub.]

Keep an eye out for any chocolate, I’ve got a craving.

I think I'll always be more of a pro-bender at heart, thank you. [ Let's be honest, though. If he could metalbend he'd probably try it. ] Annnnd noted. I think you've got a good chance of finding some. They've got all kinds of stuff in here! Like, who ever heard of a kale biscuit before this place? It's crazy.

Hey, maybe I should ask for some kale to take back to Air Temple Island. I bet Pema would like to have something new to add to her recipe lineup.

[Korra's slowly filling her arms up with snacks, including fire gummies and fire gummies, and tries to open the large refrigerator door with her foot.]

What do you feel like drinking? I'm thinking milk. Too much fire food has its consequences. Had to learn that one the hard way.

[ Man. He bets Pema could work miracles with kale. Raw kale to think of Opal once in a while is all fine and good, and he can eat just about anything, but variety is just really cool. He already knows if he doesn't try the kale biscuits, he'll regret it forever.

At least Su must be used to teenagers raiding her food by now... ]

Yeah, it does kinda fight you. I mean, obviously some of us are a little more used to it. [ But he guesses that's because he's so used to Mako's cooking. That's less fire-food and more "maybe his eyebrows are so thick because they burnt off and regrew after dinner one time" food.

... you know what, on second thought, he'll help get that milk. ]
